Berkeley: Berkeley Barb, 1968. Newspaper. 20p., folded tabloid underground newspaper, news, opinion, comix, events, sex, music, theatre, film, personal ads, lightly worn and toned on newsprint. Cover shows photos of burning barricades and student hurling something at riot cops in Berkeley; the banner headline proclaims "LIBERATED!". Inside: accounts of the rally "expressing solidarity with French students and workers" which soon escalated, with police assistance, into full-blown street fighting for a week. Centerspread is a medley of photos of demonstrators, policy with bullhorns and tear gas, barricades, and students next to piles of rocks. Also in issue: reports on Hare Krishna's Ratha Yatra Festival, the Shiva Fellowship's fifth marijuana pray-in, Stew Albert on Jerry Rubin's drug bust hearing in NYC, and transcript of Huey Newton's message to the solidarity rally. Plus usual ads and news of the era.
