Description:
Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1992. Paperback. xxxviii, 309p., softbound illustrated solely with five skimpy line maps (a 1998 reprint may be better-furnished), anyway, theoretical cartography by a scholar of African history who had taught in Zambia, later doing research made possible by a Carter G. Woodson Institute fellowship. Thornton builds on Fernand Braudel's Mediterranean studies (who he says insufficiently valued Africa's role).

Madrid: Libreria General Victoriano Suarez, 1958. Description:
Berkeley: University of California Press, 1932. Paperback. 58p., illustrated with a single large folded map (19x9 inches) neatly bound inside terminal cover. Difficult to unfold but we did that without damage. Softbound in 10.5x7 inch plain printed blue-grey wraps which are badly edgeworn. Cover and text-block are separated along upper half of join, but holding. Topmost inch of spine panel is abraded and chipped one quarter-inch. There is a deep crease to front wrap, and that's the end of bad news: text from half-title to map is in fine clean shape without any markings. As is, scarce early Sauer title with a darn nice map. Ibero-Americana no. 3.
