Description:
Lugdunum Batavorum [Leiden] & Amstelodami [Amsterdam], Netherlands: Lugd. Batavorum: Jacobum Hackium | Amstelodami: Abrahamum Wolfgang, Ao., MDCLXXX (1680). First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good +. pp. 704. Thick small 8vo., measuring 5" x 8". Plain contemporary black buckram binding bearing gilt rules, and lettering to the spine (the binder has immaculately preserved the generous margins of this volume). Gorgeous engraved frontispeice, title vignette (Hackiums' printer's device), three additional full-page engravings, and accompanied with various additional smaller in-text vignettes, collectively depicting scenes from Virgils' poetry. No detectable flaws to the contemporary binding, neat period ink name to the upper-margin of the frontispiece (unaffecting the engraving), the rare occasional spot (chiefly confined to the upper-margins of some pages), else, contents quite well-perserved with tight, sound binding. Overall, very good+. The text used is attributed to that of N. Heinsius.
