In very good condition: fading to spine with rubbing at head and tail; rubbing to yapped corners; front hinge is tender although all leaves firmly attached; 1908 Christmas inscription to free endpaper; general toning and a few foxing marks. Boards have rubbing and light soiling; weakened hinge although all pages firmly secured; ink stamp to pastedown; light creasing to last third of pages. Overall in very good condition: pages remain bright and there are no markings or tears.

Red cloth boards with pictorial pastedown to front and stylized blocked titles on gilt background front; gilt titles spine and blocked design rear board. Inscription to pastedown: " To Eleanor from Mamma Christmas 1911". Light soiling to endpapers; a few pages have been painted or colored; 5 pages have closed tears, a few folded corners and sporadic soil and or thumb marks. Boards have rubbing to edges and corners; hinge is weakened with exposed webbing to gutter in a few places; pages all secure.

Front cover shows Rupert flying on a large feather. 1st story: Rupert and the Young Knight, 2nd story: Rupert and the Whirlpool. 1cm closed tear top front cover; rear cover has a few light marks, and tiny closed tear top edge; blue lines to final page of Rupert and the Whirlpool story; very light marks to tail edge on a few pages. Games and puzzle are not marked. In overall very good condition.

Only flaw is a strip of lifted paper top edge page 115.
