London, England: Sampson Low, Marston, Searle & Rivington, 1876. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. This is a scarce original edition and sold as such despite its condition. An ex-library copy with marking to the endpapers and first page, spine cloth taped and marked. Octavo, 9" tall, 339 pages with intertextual black and white illustration plus 1 fold-out black and white map + 7 black and white plates; gilt titles on decorative green cloth. A good only hardcover edition overall with significant general shelf wear and rubbing, fore-corner tips through to boards, backstrip has been retaped by the library, hinges cracked and taped but presently secure, internal binding still secure, paper light to moderately yellowed, some minor scattered foxing, several pages have some finger soiling; folding map is complete but coming apart at the folds. With significant exterior wear to all edges, chipping and fraying at the back strip and fore-corners, BUT most significantly, moisture stains evident to the endpapers and approximately half the pages but all text remains clear, interior paper moderately foxed, hinges cracked but secure, binding sturdy.
