Legend includes territorial boundaries, agricultural and mineral resources, railways, air routes, aerial and navy bases, embassies and consulates. Browned particularly at folds, small tears on edges and folds. Text in Japanese. Sheet measures 60.1 x 82.2cm. The two inset maps are: 太平洋 "Map of the Pacific", with major battles and their dates indicated; ハワイ諸島 "Map of the Hawaiian Islands". The 13th map in this Standard Maps of Greater East Asia series (of 20 maps). All text in Japanese. Shows railways, shipping routes, administrative boundaries, airfields, ports, lighthouses, mines, oil wells etc. .

Tokyo: 統制社(Tosei-sha). 昭和18 [Showa]1943.. Folding colour map of New Zealand with inset of Auckland and Wellington top and bottom corners,1:2,000,000 scale, little light browning. Original envelope worn with closed tears. 54 x 76.5cm. Good copy. Scale plan of New Zealand printed by Tosei in 1943. The map legend shows infrastructure deemed important to the Land Survey Bureau of the General Staff Headquaters of the Imperial Japanese army, such as boundaries, powerlines, quarries and mines; railroads, sea-routes, etc. .

[Beijing].: 地图戰報.[Di tu zhan bao].. September1967.. Maps printed in red and black, single sheet printed on both sides, folded, scale not given, photographic image of Mao Zedong. Some light browning at edges with tears and losses on left edge, still good. Text in Chinese. Sheet measures 26.5 x 38.4cm. Includes a map of Autumn Harvest Uprising and also shows the routes of the military advancing towards Jinggangshan between September and October 1927. On reverse left section, a map shows the route along which Chairman Mao led the Fourth Army of the Chinese Red Army marching towards south of Anhui and Jiangxi Provinces in 1929. On reverse right section, a map titled "The Long March of The Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army (October 1934-October 1935)". Quotations of Chairman Mao about the Long March insert on corners of the map. Hong Kong.: A-O-A Ltd.. June/July1977.. Coloured tourist maps of Hong Kong printed both sides on a sheet, folded. One general area map of Hong Kong and three detailed street maps featuring Kowloon Peninsula, Tsimshatsui and Central District. Generally in very good condition, text in traditional Chinese, English and Japanese. Sheet measures 58.2 x 43cm. The tourist maps include currency rate, tourist advice, advertisements for foreign and local brands and shops (e.g. A-O-A Gambling Handbook for Macau, Duty Free shopping centres, Chinese Arts & Crafts centres, acupuncture clinic, etc.) The maps of Central and TST have the names of many hotels, businesses, post offices etc marked on them. .

Hong Kong.: Walter K. Hoffman.. January/February1976.. Coloured tourist map brochure of maps of Hong Kong printed both sides (six maps in total), folded. Brochure also includes advertisements, currency rates. Minor tears along folds, otherwise in good condition. Text in traditional Chinese, English and Japanese. Sheet measures 58.2 x 43.4cm. Sheet includes 6 individual maps: Map of British Crown Colony of Hong Kong, Map of the Urban Area (with routes for public transportation), Map of Tsimshatsui (large scale street map), Map of Central District (large scale street map), Map of Wanchai (large scale street map), Map of Causeway Bay (large scale street map), Map of Portuguese Overseas Province of Macau. On the maps of Central and TST the names of many businesses, hotels, etc are marked. .

(Paris).: Service hydrographique et océanographique de la marine. 1883, but1894.. Engraved hydrographical chart on watermarked double sheet, 99 x 63 cm, soundings in metres, lighthouses picked out in yellow and red, inset map of the port and town of Tenedos, central fold, a few very slight edge tears (to the generous margins), light spotting and surface soiling, but in very good condition. Fine and impressive large naval chart of this strategically important strait, then still under the control of the Ottoman Empire. From a private collection; "Lord John Fitzroy, Royal Yacht Squadron" in manuscript on the verso. .

(London).: (Robert Jennings). (1830).. Engraved map 11.5 x 14.3 cm, showing route of European explorers, faint added outline colour in an early hand and manuscript note to the verso in the same ink, edges age-toned, but in very good condition. Detailed pre-colonial map of Africa, "Regions Unexplored" marked and "no fresh water to be found" on the west coast. An early manuscript inscription on the verso refers to Lander's ..."wanderings of Clapperton", the Scottish naval officer and explorer. Richard Lander, had returned with Hugh Clapperton's journal following his death and the account was published in the same year as Fenner's "Pocket Atlas of Modern & Ancient Geography", for which this map was prepared. .

Printed map, 24 x 32.1 cm, decorative border, two original vertical folds, paper toned, mainly at the edges, inner margin of the sheet ragged, but in good order. A late edition of the map used for the well-known Tallis map, this without the characteristic vignettes and on thinner paper. .

[New York].: Rand, McNally & Co.. 1899.. Printed colour map, 36.3 x 24.3 cm, inset map of the Suez Canal and two smaller insets of the Cardagos Crayos Islands, Mascarene Islands and Cape Verde Islands, central fold, and on the verso a printed panel listing the countries in Africa with their territorial governance, area and population, lower corner creased at the outer margin, but in very good condition. An interesting late nineteenth-century map noting colonial governance. .

(London).: (Times Atlas of the World).. (1895).. Double-page folding map, printed in colour, 46.5 x 36.5 cm. edges gilt, central fold, with an inset map of Somaliland (Somalia) and the island of Sokotra, key to European possessions outlined in colour, small edge fold tears affecting the margin only and two other small edge tears, slight toning at the edgaes, but in very good condition. Attractive and detailed map prepared for the first edition of "The Times Atlas of the World". .

Chicago.: Geo. F. Cram.. (1894).. Chromolithographed maps, 54.3 x 34.1 cm (sheet), central fold, a few small edge tears and marginal age toning, but in very good condition. Detailed maps prepared for George F. Cram's 1894 "Standard American Atlas": one of the first American firms to publish a world atlas. Maps of Oceania and South Africa printed on the verso. .

New York.: Ivison, Blakeman, Taylor & Co.. (circa1877).. Printed colour map, 27.5 x 21.7 cm, large inset of Northern Africa and a smaller of Southern Africa, two small edge tears, lower corner neatly strengthened, the sheet toned, but the map in good condition, unrelated text printed on the verso. Map of Africa as a whole before the Imperial race for colonies in the 1880s, with interesting insets of Northern and Southern Africa. .

Los Angeles.: Los Angeles Examiner.. Sunday 1 May1938.. Printed colour pictorial map 33 x 48 cms; 41.8 x 54.5 cms (sheet) central fold, sheet toned, corners chipped with some loss to the bottom border and at the central fold, in good condition; and on the verso "Movie-Go-Round" by Louella O. Parsons, black and white photos and advertisements. Pictorial map printed for the weekend supplement of the Randolph Hearst owned newspaper the Los Angeles Examiner. The map-maker and artist Howard Burke had also worked for the San Francisco Examiner and was known for pictorial maps, many with a persuasive or rhetorical edge, and as here, were designed to shore up American patriotism and defences against a wider world in the increasingly turbulent pre-war 1930s. The caption to this map outlines a multi-billion dollar 25 year proposal by Congressman J. Map of ancient Armenia and Mesopotamia, printed in colour with the Retreat of the Ten Thousand during the final years of the Peloponnesian War picked out in original hand colour, 14.9 x 21.9 cm, paper toned at the edges, small silverfish abrasions affecting the bottom grid and margin, but in very good condition. Text in Latin. .

Tokyo.: 朝日新聞社. Asahi Shinbunsha.. Showa 17. [1942].. Folding colour map showing the East Indies, Borneo, West Papua, the Malay peninsula and southern regions of Thailand and the former Indochina and northern Australia. On the reverse maps printed in red and black ink show the location of the area covered on this map within the region and 6 climate and resource maps, 36 x 52cm. Very good. .

Gotha.: Perthes, Justus.. (Circa1855).. Engraved map, 44.1 x 36.3 cm (sheet size), 35.8 x 29.7cm (map size), plate mark, map with original hand colouring and hand coloured key noting Islamic ("Mohammedanische"), Buddhist ("Buddhaistische") and European territories by country. Unusual map in an early issue. It was included as map 39 in Stieler's "Hand-Atlas uber alle Theile der Erde und uber das Weltgebaude by Frederic von Stulpnagel", revised by Hermann Berghaus in 1855. The issue is noted to the top right: Ausg. in 63BI. no XIV. Fine outline hand colouring denotes territories by religion and Chinese ports open to European trade and Japanese ports open to American trade. .

London & New York.: Tallis, J & F.. [1851].. Lithographed map 24.5 x 32.3 cm, borders picked out in original hand colour, four inset vignette illustrations, decorative Greek key border, edge worn and discoloured, paper toned, but the attractive map in good condition. Attractive decorative map prepared for "Tallis's illustrated atlas and modern history of the world..." one of the last great illustrated series of world maps. The fine vignettes are of Mt. Olympus, Rhodes, a ketch in the Mediterranean Sea and two costumed Ottomans. .

Pan American World Airways.. 1964.. Colour pictographic/pictorial map of Asia 23.2 x 30.1 cms, gilt double-rule border printed on a folding decorative menu card 32 x 50 cms (open), highlighted in gilt, text in English, French and Japanese, central fold, and (later) central vertical crease, in very good condition. Pan Am menu card for First Class passengers dubbed "The President Special", the deluxe cuisine by fabled Maxim's of Paris "Good food is the basis for true happiness". Passengers were feted with gourmet meals on bone china with silver cutlery. The witty pictorial cover-map of Asia was by French artist and commercial illustrator Jacques Liozu (1910-1974), also known for his larger scale maps. .
