Description:
Morning Sun Books. Hardcover. New. Hardcover, 128 pages, standard portrait format, Color photographs with captions. There are some really neat pictures here. Some cars are away from their home road but look like they just came out of the paint shop - maybe they did. Some small roads get multiple pages and images like the Ann Arbor and Minneapolis & St. Louis. Some small roads and private owner cars get one picture. It's not all ""Boxcar Red' as there were many colorful cars seen in the 1950s. This book begins with Ann Arbor and ends with Norfolk & Western and is arranged alphabetically. So, no PRR and Southern Pacific and many others. Maybe another volume will cover those companies. The 1950s are arguably the classic era for freight cars, pre-dating the mergers that would erase many venerable railroads and leave us with new names such as Penn Central, Seaboard Coast Line, and Erie-Lackawanna. In the 1950s, ""boxcar red"" was everywhere, but colorful new paint schemes were arriving and turning heads.…

Description:
Morning Sun Books. Hardcover. New. The concept of Auto-Train was a winner, as this service continues under Amtrak ownership up to today. That's almost 50 years of service. The photographic coverage starts in the beginning with the brash paint scheme of the equipment and the piecing together of train consists with used equipment from many former railroads which exited the passenger train market before and at the formation of Amtrak. The business plan worked and was successful with older steam-heated and cooled cars but new General Electric diesel locomotives. The demise of the original Auto-Train has been agreed upon as the decision to have service to the Midwest begin at Louisville rather than finding a route to get closer to Chicago. This title has a nice selection of photographs from all Auto-Train eras. Contents: Introduction, pp. 2-5, Equipment, pp. 6-23, Facilities - Sanford, Florida, pp. 24-31, A Personal Visit to Sanford on November, 15, 1975, pp. 32-39, Facilities - Lorton, Virginia, pp.…
