Description:
Kratville Publications, 1995. Hardcover. New. Signed by both authors and numbered. Volume 1 is long out-of-print. Arizona Hobbies has never seen a copy of Volume 1. This three-cylinder design pushed the limits of locomotive design theory and the railroad's own clearance and other mechanical restrictions. Inside this book is the story of the design, fabrication, modification and operation of these 88 locomotives which lasted on the Union Pacific until the end of steam locomotive operations. Contents: Ch. 1: Preface, Ch. 2: Improvements, Ch. 3: Automatic Train Control, Ch. 4: Improvements Not Made, Ch. 5: Operations, Ch. 6: Remembering the Nines, Ch. 7: At The Terminal, Ch. 8: In The Shop, Ch. 9: The Traveler #9004, Ch. 10:… Read More
