Riverhead, New York, 1885. Hardcover. Very good condition. The original manuscript title to a very large tract of land near Brookhaven Long Island acquired by John A. Bowman from the individual proprietors and conveyed here by Bowman in its entirety to the Long Island Improvement Company Ltd. The Long Island Improvement Company was formed by Austin Corbin, then president of the L. I. Rail Road and others in 1881. Corbin sought the land in order to develop expensive summer residences on Long Island; Bowman was acting as Corbin's agent in the acquisition of this valuable property. Austin Corbin (1827 - 1896) was an American railroad executive, plantation owner, resort operator, banker and robber baron. In Iowa, as a bank president, he engaged in mortgage scams. Later, through theft and corruption he consolidated the individual rail lines into the profitable Long Island Rail Road. Canada: Canadian National Railway System, 1933. Paperback. Very good overall. A tourist brochure advertising trips up the Inner Passage, from Vancouver to Skagway Alaska. Extensively illustrated, with a double page map centerfold. With a stamp on the last page where this was distributed by the Canadian Nat. Railways in Sydney Australia. Includes a separate sheet "Canadian National Steamships Alaska Service -1933" which shows schedules for Vancouver, Prince Rupert and Skagway. The fare from Vancouver/Seattle and Victoria to Skagway round trip $90. 4to 24pp, color illustrated front cover with black titles, color map at centerfold, staplebound. Slt. dusty cover.

1930. PAINTING. Good + overall. Original art of Australian historical locomotives. Three meticulously painted train engines, with partial train stations in variant perspectives and vibrant hues, and pen notations in margin for print reproduction, "132%, Australia #1312, also used for #1313, #1327 international design. 4 Color, exact size for wrap, reduce for 1327." Initials: 'O.C.' 11.5 x 15" on 13.25 x 16". Some damp marking at the top 2" of the sheet but the images are unaffected, clean and bright.

New York, 1850. Very good overall. An interesting letter detailing the negotiation over wooden vs. iron railroad bridges. In this letter addressed to Strong, M. M. White, agent of the New York Iron Bridge Co., seeking to persuade the Vermont railroad to eschew a wooden bridge and setting out advantageous terms for purchasing an iron bridge. Strong was "liable as endorser on paper for the Rutland and Washington Railroad Company, which subsequently failed, to an amount considerable exceeding all his property." He was sued in the Supreme Court of Vermont lter in the 1850s and looks to have been bankrupted, losing his real estate, marble quarry share, etc. (See "Reports of Cases Argued and Determined in the Supreme Court of Vermont, vol. 42, Montpelier Vt, 1870, by Wheelock Veazey, a Vermont Civil War hero. Proofs No. 4 accompanying Referees' Report as to Counsel fees of Receiver Phelps. Theo R Gates Referee." The index references Howard H. Morse, John S. Hill and Edwin R. Meade. This is the manuscript record of their testimony dated between 1 March and 30th March, 1881. pp 272 - 620 (3). Appearances were made by Mr. North, Mr. Morse & Mr. Mackenzie before Theodore B. Gates, Referee. Brooklyn Elevated Railroad was an elevated railroad company in Brooklyn, New York City, United States, operated from 1885 until 1899, when it was merged into the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company-controlled Brooklyn Union Elevated Railroad. Routes described include: the transcontinental route, the Crows nest pass route, the Kootenay and Soo-Spokane route, the transcontinental lake route, the Muskoka route, and the Short Line. Further information provided on CPR Royal Mail and Steamship lines, railway lands, and telegraph lines. Includes a full page advertisement entitled, "If You Want a Farm" for land available in "sunny southern Alberta" (p96). 8vo, 101 pp. Memoranda [3] pp. Stiff paper wrappers, printed in blue and green, with Art Deco style decorative borders, staple bound. Some light creasing of wrappers, back wrapper cracks repaired with archival tape.

Off white paper, printed in black. Few short splits at folds. Folds concertina style; folded measures approximately 4 1/2 x 8, with 5 vertical folds.

1920. Very good condition. Collection of printed photograph post cards in color and b&w, including one real b& w photograph post card titled "Mineing (sic) Safety Device Plant, Bowerston, Ohio". New Philadelphia is the largest city and county seat of Tuscarawas County, Ohio, located south of Cleveland and northeast of Columbus. Images of the area in and around New Philadelphia include: Public Square (bit marked on verso); North Broadway; Scene Near new Philadelphia, Ohio (stone bridge over river); C & P Depot; B. & O. Depot (very small chip lower left corner); B. & O. Depot by Night (very small chip lower left corner); East Avenue, New Philadelphia; Belmont Stamping & Enameling Co.; Scene Along the B. & O. R. R. by Night (used, message in pencil addressed to Mr. C. E. Leggett, New Philadelphia); South Broadway Bridge; and The Dam. Published the year that the first transcontinental railroad was completed Map of the United States as far west as Kansas, with inset "Colton's Map of the United States Showing the Proposed Railroad Routes To The Pacific Ocean", and inset "Southern Part Of Florida". The map (28x41") showing Indian Territory which today consists of the eastern part of Wyoming (territory 1868), Colorado (territory 1861) and Montana (territory in 1864). The projected railroad routes for the Southern Pacific, Atlantic Pacific, and the Northern Pacific are shown, and each county is colored. 12mo (4 x 6 1/4"), folded into original dark brown stamped cloth covers, with title in gilt at front board. Ads on inside front cover. Numerous short cracks at map folds. Bright gold gilt embossed title at front cover, spine nicely rebacked with the original cloth.

Bruxelles: J. Verschueren, 1900. Very good condition. An early Chinese railroad bond, with attractive bank-note engraving and with three Chinese vignettes: a Chinese village, a Chinese temple, and a railway bridge spanning a large river. Printed in red & black, with multiple tax stamps at top of page. Number 05219, with coupon sheet attached, dated 1936 through 1944, with the 1936 coupon removed. Complete with statutes printed in red on verso. 14 x 15"
