New York: Macmillan, 1938. Very good in slt. marked dj. Consisting of Reveries Over Childhood and Youth, the Trembling of the Veil and Dramatis Personae. 8vo, 479 pp, b&w frontis, b&w illus. Green cloth covers with gilt title on front cover and spine. Spine gently rubbed at top and base, and edges slightly worn. Internally, pages evenly toned, o/w very good +. Red and green dj with title in white on front cover and spine. Dj is ruffled at edges and slightly chipped at top and base of spine; with a triangular chip approximately one half inch high at bottom edge of back dj cover.

(New York?), 1915. Irish propaganda targeting the British during W.W.I. from the Irish World of January 30, 1915. During W.W.I, the struggle for Irish independence was suspended, with the Nationalist forces splitting over support of the war. This handbill appears to be an effort to incite hatred of the British, with racist descriptions of Fijian soldiers, "the cannibals we may say" who fought for the British. There is a clear preference for Germany - "And these are the savages, the cannibals we may say, whom Britain is bringing over to fight the most enlightened nation of Melancthon and SchlegeL of Kant... of Mozart and Beethoven and Wagner, of Goethe and Heine..." The text characterized the Fijians as cannibals, "dark copper colored, have black eyes and bushy hair worn in the form of a mop", short stature, protruding stomachs, legs bowed and feet flat, and usually nude. Albumen photograph, no border, with the photographer's name, addresses and monogram crest on the front of the card beneath the card. The verso has an extensive penciled description: The 1st Earl Cairns was an Irish lawyer, parliamentary orator and statesman. British Solicotor General (1858)attorney general & lord justice of appeal (1866), leader of Conservative party in the House of Lords (1869-74), lord chancellor of England (1868, 1874-80).

British Parliamentary Paper, House of Commons number 347-II, describing emigration status to South Australia, Western Australia & Van Dieman's Land. Reports on vessels, condition & character of immigrants, female immigration, status of employability of previous immigrations and more. Emigrant vessels include: "Indian", "Eliza", "Himalaya", "Constance", "Ascendant", "Duke of Portland", "Tory", "Indian", "Bengal", "Sophia", "Mary". Immigrants hailed from Ireland, Germany, and the Shetland Islands. 'Distressed Needlewomen' including notes on orphans migrating to Australia. Folio, 8 3/4 x 13 3/4", 150pp, back wrapper with additional title. Printed on beige paper with the title on the first page, as issued, stitching present but first fascicle loose. Edges chipped but only at the edges, covers lightly marked & dusty, interior clean.

This edition published in Philadelphia, in the publishers cloth binding. 8vo, 258pp, frontis & 3 plates. Text printed in two columns, complete in one volume. Publishers brown blind stamped and gilt titled cloth. Spine tips slt chipped with small hinge split. One fascicule loose in binding. Overall very bright. OCLC 12275700 cites a Kirtas reprint edition.

Inscribed at the top of the title page by Maria Edgeworth "Mrs. Charlotte Sneyd from the authors - in stead of one which they stole from her when she was absent at Ross-------" . Association copy with Maria Edgeworth (1768-1849) the famed children's author, educationist & feminist. She was the daughter of Richard Lovell Edgeworth and Anna Maria Elers. Her mother died young in 1773 and her father Richard married second Honora Sneyd (1751-1780). This was the beginning of a lifetime's assocation with the Sneyd family. Honora had been brought up by Seward family, beloved by Anna Seward (the author) and briefly engaged to John Andre. When Honora died in 1780, Richard married her sister Elizabeth. Dublin: The Central Tenants' Defense Committee, 1877. Hardcover. Good + overall. The trial of John Sarsfield Casey, an activist defender of Irish tenant farmers, who earlier in his career wrote letters to Fenian newspapers as 'The Galtee Boy', which were used in his 1865 trial to support a charge of treason and a sentence of transportation to Australia. Casey was one of the 62 Fenians transported to Western Australia. He was granted a free pardon in 1869 and returned to Dublin in 1870. The 1877 trial recorded here was brought against Casey in Ireland by the agent for a wealthy land owner (Nathaniel Buckley) named Patten Smith Bridge. Bridge had imposed enormous rent increases on the Galtee Mountain tenant farmers; he alleged that Casey's articles to the press about the excessive rent increases had libeled him. London: T. McLean 26 Haymarket, 1829. Satirical cartoon published April 28, 1829, satirizing the Marchioness of Conyngham, wife of an Irish peer, treasured mistress of King George IV and at one time Czar Nicholas. See BM Satires No. 15733. Lady Conyngham stands as a very heavy woman, feet apart, with a cocked blunderbuss under her arm, in the manner of a gamekeeper. The caption reads "I says to our Governor says I... keep your eye on them ere Leaders George. 9 3/8 x 13 1/4" with very small margins, tipped onto a larger sheet, with the actual name of the satirized person penciled below in an early hand. Very fresh period hand color. Very crisp.

K Edgeworth on front free endpaper together with a copy of an 8pp pamphlet that he published in Dublin at around the same time as this book. In the pamphlet, Edgeworth makes reference to the research done in Australia which killed the blight in the seed by heating it (p.6). 8vo, 215pp, 12 ills in text, 50 photographic plates, folding map of rainfall and isohyets map of Victoria. Original brown boards, gilt title, corners bumped o/w very good condition. Pamphlet published in Dublin, Browne, and Nolan, Limited, nd, (ca. 1911), 8pp, orig. printed pale green wrappers, slt. foxed. Scarce. 12mo, 43pp. Blue veined stiff wrappers with title in black at front cover, no title at spine. Vertical crease at right edge of cover, short chips to lower corners. Internally, Irish Book Shop stamp to ffep, o/w very good, bright and fresh.
