Washington [1856 - 1915] was a leader of the African American community between 1890 and 1915. An important work on San Juan and its development, prepared for the Fifth Interamerican Congress of Municipalities, showing in schematic form with color maps, the development of the city and the directives for future development based on San Juan's historical evolution. The 12 color maps begin with the city's birth in 1508; each is accompanied by a printed card describing conditions at the time in English and Spanish. The last map, dated 1975 visualizes the San Juan metropolitan area of the future, and estimates a population of 1,000,000, about twice the area the city was in 1950. Oblong 4to, unpaginated, color maps throughout. 28 unnumbered pages, illustrations (some color), maps, plans. Yellow printed paper covered boards, spiral bound.
