Boston: Little, Brown & Company. Very Good- in Good dust wrapper. 1940. First US Edition. Hardcover. "First Edition" stated on copyright page with "Published October 1940" beneath. Spine ends bumped, cloth edges lightly worn but not torn or worn to boards. Page edges soiled and foxed as are pastedowns and endpapers (seen before in this edition). A single page has a series of numbers (phone number?) in ink on bottom margin. Clipped dust wrapper is sunned and edgeworn with several small chips and tears. One closed tear repaired with tape by previous owner. Cloth binding and matching dw have a wonderful illustration by Robert Ball. ; <b>There was once a stepping stone in the little village of Gillenham.
