Attached to the bottom of the book is a box of Golden Wipe-Off Crayons to be used to color the panels. Because of the special crayons and the glossy paper used, the crayon is easily erased so the book can be re-used. Scarce in unused condition.

On one side of the large accordion - folded sheet are beautiful full color lithographs of more than 50 animals. On the other side, the same animals appear in the same setting but with their backs turned and done in one-color. This was the first picture book for nursery age children that the D'Aulaires wrote and it is a stunning picture book featuring some of their best work. See Bader p.222.

PANORAMA. FANTASY. no publication information or text (but purchased with a group of Hebrew books from 1940). Oblong 4to (9 1/4 x 8 1/4"), pictorial boards bound accordion style with 8 illustrations (4 panels illustrated on both sides), VG+. This unusual book actually shows 2 fantasy trips that take place in the Middle East. It begins in a child's room with the window wide open and toys on the floor but no child. The child is seen flying on top of a giant winged insect, he is then seen walking toward a large castle, then boating down a river, then in a flying chariot pulled by a giant bird. Meanwhile the toys have come alive and are guided by a wizard. They visit the Sphinx in Egypt, a walled city (Jerusalem?) and end up back in the room with the wizard performing magic. Theoretically the child could make up any story to accompany the pictures which are fine color lithographs filling each panel.

This PERE CASTOR BOOK is illustrated by Russian emigre artist ALEXANDRA EXTER. One side is a striking full color panorama done in rich colors with much detail and style. The verso is illustrated in black & white where the text appears. In his article on Russian emigre artists (DAPA Winter 1989) A.L. de Saint-Rat comments about Pere Castor books: "If a break was to be made in format and style, Exter was to make it in the grandest manner...[the panoramas] are masterpieces of graphic design unsurpassed to this day.
