The text is a narrative about Jean and Dick who decide to build a playhouse out of a large box. There are 4 large glue-backed sheets with color pieces of each room of the playhouse. Each sheet has a stiff card with outlines of the pieces and to be cut out and pasted. There is also one large full page art deco illustration showing the finished house. Pieces are arranged abstractly on each sheet so it is more of a challenge for the child to assemble. Very scarce.

There are 7 double page scenes of life in a manor town, illustrated in rich colors. Slits are placed strategically around the scene into which the reader can insert various people, animals and other figures, and several of the doors open and close. 32 figures are included and most can be used interchangeably. Includes: bakery, butcher, market day in the square, an inn, a kitchen, a school room and coach travel to the town. Nurnberger Bilderbucher 25a. Rarely found colmplete in such beautiful condition.

Oblong folio (13 x 11"). pictorial wraps, some light cover soil else near fine, complete and unused. Everything a child would need to put on his/her own shadow theater is included here. There are 8 sheets of blue cardboard that contain 40 cut-outs of figures and costumes to be mounted on handles. The cover is also used for a backdrop and an additional piece is in the rear of the book. The presentations consist of two Perrault fairy tales: Cendrillon (Cinderella) and La Belle au Bois (Sleeping Beauty). Decorations and costumes are by Lalouve whose real name was Kate Wolff. Wolff was a Jewish artist forced to leave Germany in 1933. She came to Paris and began to work for Pere Castor, hiding her Jewish origins and changing her name to Lalouve, This is the second Shadow Theater published by Pere Castor. A rare and wonderful Pere Castor item.

Oblong narrow folio (14 1/2 x 8 1/4"), cloth backed stiff pictorial card covers, some wear to edges and corners and repair to 2 hinges, VG+. The text in verse is a variation of the Ten Little Niggers rhyme. 8 of the 10 leaves of the book (printed on heavy card paper) are incrementally shorter than each succeeding page. The front of each page has the illustration with the verse on the back. By turning the page you reveal the next illustration which is hidden when closed. The clever part is that although one section changes with each leaf the illustration still remains pertinent to the text. Brightly illustrated in color by Harold Colson showing the exploits of a troupe of performing vaudevillian Japanese men. Rare.

There are 12 lovely full page silhouette illustrations. Each illustration represents a different historical figure or event in Swiss history including William Tell, Nicolas de Flue, Major Davel and more. The child is to cut out the marked sections of the illustration. Then by cutting out pieces of various colored papers provided in the book, and pasting them into open sections of the full page illustration, the child can make their own illuminated pictures. The effect is most effective when held to the light. Designed by LALOUVE whose real name was Kate Wolff. Wolff was a Jewish artist forced to leave Germany in 1933. She came to Paris and began to work for Pere Castor, hiding her Jewish origins and changing her name to Lalouve, This is one of the more unusual and rare Pere Castor titles.

The inserted books have various activities for the child to do. Titles include: Teddy and Dolly, Jumbo and Bunny, Birds of America, Puss and Chicky, Wild Animals and Farm Friends. Each left hand page has text in verse by Alden Knipe. The facing page has a full page illustration in red with faint traces of blue done by Brandywine artist Emily Benson Knipe. Hinged into the rear of the book is a large red translucent paper overlay. By placing the overlay on top of each illustration, the red is masked out and a new illustration in blue appears. The pictures correspond to the theme of the poem with the red depicting the "before" scenario and the blue depicting what happens after. Quite scarce.
