Salem, MA: Cushing and Appleton, 1809. Octavo. 511 pages, errata (p. 512). From the Adams family to Yale Elihu. The family of Rev. Joseph Buckminster (page 88-89) is noted in the book and also written on the front pastedown the following biographical information: Great Grandfather Buckminster, Col. 1876, Essex Co,....Richard Buckminster, Limerick, NY; Drafted in War of 1812; John Buckminster (grandfather), went in Richard's place; James G.(?) Buckminster born at Limerick 1840. Memoirs of Rev. Joseph Buckminster, D.D. and of his son, Rev. Joseph Stevens Buckminster. Bound in full contemporary calf, spine ruled in gilt, red morocco spine label gilt, a bit of toning or scattered foxing, damp staining to end sheets and (oddly) to the outer margins of pages 209-219, lacks only one front blank. A very good copy.

Indianapolis: Union Direct Co, 1902. Octavo. 284 pages. A very scarce Indiana directory covering towns and villages in 19 contiguous counties around Indianapolis with thousands of ads from the items of the era; bicycles and horse-drawn wagons in an age just before the automobile appeared on the scene in Indiana even before 1900. Dr. W.T. McCarthy's full-page ad on how he can cure cancer. This informative directory provides an insight into what Indianans' were interested in at the beginning of the 20th century. The inserts bound into the book include Dr. Bush's Gasaway, Gas Belt. This has the Library of Congress copyright stamp which shows it is one of the two copies, deposited to secure copyright. Bound in 1/4 red cloth over printed tan paper covered boards, spine lettering black, wear to corners, light wear, and soiling to spine. A very good copy.

Marlborough, Mass: Pratt Brothers, 1886. Octavo. 280 pages, index alphabetically arranged. Feltons are found in virtually every state of the union. While they initially settled in Salem, they eventually moved to the Carolinas and across the country. John B. Felton, a former Oakland, California mayor, a judge and a San Francisco Bay Area investor in his day, the town is a historic logging community (see page 224-225 for a fuller description). Fenton's first work was published in 1877, a pamphlet consisting of only 19 pages and of only 70 copies which sold out in 9 months. This new edition gives the account of over 300 families. Bound in brown cloth, spine lettering silver.

Berryville, Virginia, (1972): Virginia Book Company. Thick Quarto. Facsimile edition from the original 1890 edition. 925 pages, index, illustrated. Perhaps the most complete history of the region with a long and important section on the John Brown and the Harper's Ferry Raid as well as the rise of Stonewall Jackson. The next chapter (26) deals with Jubal Early and Sheridan's major victory is downplayed while the defeat of Early is dismissed as bad fortune. While these accounts are colored by the traditional view taken by many Southern citizens in the late 19th century, these chapters do give a picture of how the average Virginian in the Lower Shenandoah Valley viewed the history. A very useful history for other key figures with a long section on biography and genealogy. Bound in maroon cloth, spine lettering gilt. A fine copy.

Hollis, NH; (1997): Penobscot Press. First Edition. Octavo. viii, 619 pages, includes bibliographic references (pages 561-564) and index. The town's history was intense with twenty-seven "first families" from the early 18th century until the Gold Rush when those tired of the hard scrabble farming dreamed of Gold, most returned and then a decade later the young men joined the Union army in the Civil War. With the Gilded Age, many young men fled to Boston where the economic opportunities were so much greater but again the town continued with their sons and daughters coming home regardless of what a wider world offered. Bound in red cloth lettered and ruled in gilt, spine lettering gilt. A fine bright copy.

Barcelona: Jua Oligeres and Monmany, 1836. First Edition. Octavo. In two volumes. Vol. I: 254 pp. one large folding plate. Vol. II: 381 pp. one full page plate (family tree) Chronology And Genealogy Of The Kings Of Spain. The author was a Spanish historian and archivist. His son followed the same path. A very nice set bound in 1/4 dark brown morocco over brown cloth, raised bands, spine lettering gilt, marbled endpapers, original printed wrappers bound in. Occasional spots of foxing. A very nice set.

Philadelphia: Brookfield Publishing Co, 1950. Octavo. part 6; pages [1464]-1922, folding chart, bound in rd cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt, previous owner's gift inscription with a nice sentiment "The past belongs to us only in so far as we accept it as a challenge to our present and only as we make it a foundation of which to build a future worthy of it" and with another paper taped in giving instruction to pages. A very nice copy.

Has library blindstamp on title page, but no other markings. Nice tight binding and bright blue with only light beginning edgewear.

Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc, 1992. Cloth. Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Re-issue 582pp. The corrected and revise edition. Interior very clean and tight, without marks. In gold stamped blue cloth.

London: Printed by G.J. for Abel Roper and Arthur Collins, at the Black Boy in Fleetstree, 1710. Octavo. 2nd edition. Frontispiece, 6 preliminary leaves, 408 pages, 158 (pages), [2]pp. publisher's ads. 2 parts bound as one. Each account has the coat of arms, p. 158 in the 2nd part is misumbered as page 58. This edition has large additions and corrections to an earlier edition and became the standard used by noble families in England. While there were earlier attempts to list peeraages, this was the pioneering work on which all subsequent versions depended. The second part assiduously lists the major barons in alphabetical order and provides key historical events in which they were involved including Lord Berkeley, Lord Cornwallis and especially strong on events of the English Civil War and Restoration.Bound in contemporary paneled calf, rasied bands with label gilt, some chipping to spine ends,, joints have been streghthened, previous owner's bookplate and a contemporary name in ink. A very nice copy.

The first printed peerage of England. Bound in a modern purple flexible cloth with yapped edges, spine lettering gilt, owner's name stamped in gilt to front cover,renewed endpapers, outer margins of title page and preface are trimmed in old clear tape, pages 17 and 18 small old clear tape repair to inner margin, page 159 has old clear tape mend to inner margin and upper margin, edges darkened.

Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Company, 1965. Octavo. 252 pages, index. Originally published in 1908. With a foreword by James Phinney Baxter. Besides listing all the pioneer towns and plantations of Maine and New Hampshire, it has a special directions for research on Maine and New Hampshire with helpful hints regarding variations of surnames, unique abbreviations, unusual sources, and the problem of sources (which often modern researches modify creating new problems) A near fine copy bound in green cloth, spine lettering gilt.

As Mennonites their family history shows persecution during the Revolutionary War and even afterward. They grew and prospered in Markham township where he was known as "the Solon of the community". Sting bound in tan paper wraps, split at spne down to first hole of string. lower corners chipped. A very good copy.

It lacks the speeches given in 1895 but has additional engravings though none of the hand colored images of the 1896 volume. Bound in full original calf stamped in blind society (New York) on the front cover, nicely rebacked to match. Very rare, copies are in most of the New York special libraries.
