Description:
Leiden: Colofon, 2001. 403pp. Original pictorial wraps. One Foot in Heaven conflates two main perspectives on women propagated by the Islamist government of Sudan since its inception in 1989: as mothers and wives within the walls of their compounds. Central are the biographic narratives of two working women in Kebkabiya, a town in Darfur, each belonging to a different class: low-class market women and highly esteemed female teachers. Based on anthropological research(1990-1995) the author analyses the narratives as part of the multi-layered context in which these were performed. Pages are clean (no writing, underlining, or highlighting). Binding is tight with no cracks or breaks. Covers have some light scuffing. Shelfwear (light bumping to extremities, light nicking to head of spine, corners rubbed). This is not a remainder or ex-library. No previous owner markings. Nice reading copy. . First Edition, Collectible. Trade Paperback. Good +/No Jacket as Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" -… Read More

Inner text block tight and sound. Shelfwear (slight bumping to corners, moderate rubbing to extremities). Nice reading copy. This book deals with excavations in the Robeson Hills, Riverton, and Swan Island shell middens of the central Wabash Valley during the spring, summer, and fall of 1962 and the summer of 1963 at the Riverton Site. All three are closely related components within a hitherto unreported Archaic culture typified by a distinctive micro-tool industry in chert. The culture has been named the Riverton Culture after the site at which the micro-tool tradition was first noted in surface collections.. First Edition. Oversized Softcover. Good -/No Jacket as Issued. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
