Edinburgh, Scotland: William Blackwood and Sons. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1876. Second Edition. Leather cover. Eight volume set. Red leather cover with gilt (gold) edge outline and gold lettering in black boxes. Handsome marbled endpapers. Gilt (gold) textblock edges. Spine indicates 1876 on all volumes except Vol. 8 which has 1874 and end of preface is 1873. Each volume has a simi-box (slipcase) cover for protection. Some of these slipcases have mottled spotting. Some wear to edges on some volumes and spine hinge area. Very clean contents, but some volumes have age foxing to flyleaf and/or title page. Handsome set. William Blackwood and Sons was a Scottish publishing house and printer founded by William Blackwood in 1804. It played a key role in literary history, publishing many important authors.
