Creation of Robert MacArthur Crawford (1899 - 1961) who both studied & taught at the Julliard School of Music. Colorful artist, aviator since 1923, he flew to concerts & was introduced as "The Flying Baritone." This march was submitted to the 1938, Liberty magazine sponsored contest --- of 757 entries, Crawford won. The song (1st Line: "Off we go into the wild blue yonder, climbing high into the sun...") was officially introduced at the Cleveland Air Races, Sept. 2, 1939, where Crawford sang its first public rendition!
