Smudge fingerprints noted on random pages. Story originally appeared in Liberty Weekly Magazine in 1926 and published in hardcover in 1927. First edition thus. Book condition graded as good plus. Pages are toned due to age and some foxing is present. Both pastedowns and end pages show toning along the outside edge which was likely caused by a book cover/jacket, which is no longer present.

DJ shows toning and soiling as well as tears and chipping to the edges and corners. Original price of $2.75 still present on the front flap. The blue cloth was underneath are clean though edges are toned as well. Corners are good but bottom edge has a few bumps. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings. Pages are toned due to age and quality of wartime paper used and some minor spotting and foxing is present. Only handwriting found in book is on the front end page where there is faint indentations of a price and code pencil along the top edge which was later erased. Copyright page states first published in the Viking Press in November 1944.
