William Edgar Stafford (January 17, 1914 & August 28, 1993) was an American poet and pacifist, was appointed the twentieth Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress in 1970. Stafford was born in Hutchinson, Kansas. His "Traveling Through the Dark" won the 1963 National Book Award for Poetry and he eventually published fifty-seven volumes of poetry.
