New York: Frederick Stokes, 1920. Decorative Cloth. Very Good. A WARM, PERSONAL INSCRIPTION BY HUGH LOFTING on the half-title. A solid copy to boot of the 1920 1st edition of the first published title in the beloved "Doctor Dolittle" series. Solid and VG in its decorative orange cloth, with a clean pictorial mount at the front panel. Tender (but still perfectly sturdy) front inner hinge, light soiling to the rear panel, very light foxing at the text. A very presentable copy, uncommon as such, with the charming Hugh Lofting inscription.

New York: Frederick A. Stokes Co, 1923. First Edition, Eleventh Printing. Hardcover. Fair. Duodecimo. 5 x 7.5 in. xii, 180 pp. Fair in original red cloth boards with black decorative titling and illustrated plate on the front. The cloth is fraying on the spine and the front hinge is split towards the top, as are the interior hinges. A prior owner has place a small black-and-white picture of Lofting on the lower front free endpaper, as well as two book plates on the interior front cover. The first book in the Dolittle series, inscribed by Lofting on the front free endpaper, "For Alice, with the Author's Sincere Regards, Hugh Lofting.
