Chandler and Houseman began as English schoolyard compatriots and eventually went on to collaborate infamously ont he film "The Blue Dahlia" by rushing to complete the script before its star, Alan Ladd, entered military service. Included are two original 8 x 10” photographs used in the book: “Raymond Chandler’s Grave” (page 6) and “Agnes in Geiger’s Bookshop” (page 40). Each of these has been signed in the lower margin, the second also captioned by Stoumen “from ‘The Big Sleep’.” The photographer was a two time Academy Award winner (1957 and 1962) in the documentary category, and was also nominated for his film about Weegee, “The Naked Eye” in 1956.
