New York: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Publishers,, 1982. The more I wonder, the more I love First edition, first printing, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Charles, Peace & Peoplehood, Alice Walker, 7-9-82". The same page has a touching gift inscription by the recipient, "To Meg, for Thanksgiving 1994, by a friend of mine for whom Africa was her real home, Grandpa". Walker's epistolary novel won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award in 1983. It was adapted into a film in 1985, a stage musical in 2005, and a subsequent musical film in 2023. Octavo. Original purple quarter cloth, spine lettered in silver. With dust jacket. Spine ends lightly sunned, faint foxing to top edge; a few tiny marks to unclipped jacket, small nicks and creases to extremities, short closed tear to head of rear panel: a near-fine copy in near-fine jacket.

Octavo, original half cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title page, "To Lois, in peace and joy! Alice Walker June 2006." Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Judith Kazdym Leeds. Her third novel, The Color Purple won Alice Walker the 1983 Pulitzer Prize, making her the first African-American woman to win one. "While Walker's first two novels end in the promise of good, The Color Purple ends in happiness, reunion and celebration. The Women's Press Ltd, London, 1986. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. The first UK casebound edition. 8vo. 245pp. Black cloth lettered in silver at the spine. A narrow strip of very light browning to a single preliminary and concluding leaf, else a fine copy in virtually fine non-price-clipped dust wrapper, marred only by a touch of chafing to the head of the spine panel. The author's celebrated third novel, winner of the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. It was first published in the US in 1982; a UK paperback edition followed a year later but somewhat scandalously it was not issued in the UK in casebound format until this 1986 edition. Uncommon..
