Original one sheet (11" x 8 1/2") one-sided sheet on Reuben Fine's letter head typewritten letter in German with autograph signature of Reuben Fine dated 24/12/1959. Grandmaster and psychoanalyst Reuben Fine writes to Mr. Grätz that he sends him two books, Lessons from My Games and Psychoanalytic Observations on Chess and Chess masters. Condition: Slightly age toned with an entry stamp. The letterhead is folded twice, hole punched at margin with some underlining, closed tear at head edge else a very good item.

(Bibliotheca van der Linde-Niemeijeriana: 5394) First edition.The chess club in Hannover, Germany celebrated its fifty year anniversary by organizing a small, international chess master tournament in 1926. Eight players were invited to participate, including two very strong masters: Aron Nimzowitsch from Denmark, and Akiba Rubinstein from Poland. They met with six German chess masters that included Jacques Mieses, Friedrich Sämisch, Oscar Antze, Hans Duhm, Hermann Von Gottschall, and Walther Von Holzhausen. Games were played from August 9th to the 18th. Nimzowitsch won with a near perfect score of 6½ of 7, edging out Rubinstein by half a point. The prizes were awarded to the players at the Hotel Luisenhof. Contains the match between Richard Reti and Savielly Tartakower. Contains five games annotated by Bernhard Kagan.The second part includes all the games of Master Tournament in Berlin, 1919. This was a double round tournament with Efim Dmitriyevich Bogolyubov of the Russia capturing first with four wins and two draws against second place finisher and countryman Alexey (Alex) Sergeyevich Selezniev who drew all his games. Richard Reti of Hungary and Rudolf Spielmann from Austria tied for third and fourth with win and losses against one another. All games are annotated by Kagan.Condition:Corners bumped, edge wear with age toning else about very good.

The Danish Chess Championship was organized by the Danish Chess Union (DSU) and first held in 1910. A masterclass was first introduced in 1915. But it is only from 1922 that the title of Danish chess champion was introduced, this was the first year also players from Copenhagen joined. The Master Class for 1916 was contested by 8 players. It was won b P F Johner with a score of 5 and tied two through 4 by M Marchand, O. von Lowenborg and H Krause. 5th place was claimed by O Sevensson with 3 points. 6th place was a tie between Johs Giersing and G Nyholm. The last place was regulated to E Jacobson with 1 1/2.



Corners creased, spine and edges sunned, pages still unread else a vary good copy.

Aron Nimzowitsch captured first prize, playing at that time, the hyper-modern openings. He did not lose a game with a score of 8. Tied for second were Friedrich (Fritz) Samisch and Savielly Tartakower with scores of 6. Rudolf Spielmann took 4th with 5 1/2. Ernst Jacobson was 5th with 3 points and Jorgen Muller was 6th with 1 1/2. With the Nimzowitsch win, this gave the hyper-modern school more respect.Condition:Spine ends and corners chipped, edges and spine sunned else a good copy, internally very good.

(Bibliotheca Van der Linde-Niemeijeriana: 5581) First edition limited to 242 copies .The Yugoslavian grand master Vasja Pirc captured first place with a score of 6 1/2 points, followed closely by Efim Bogoljubov one half point behind. Georg Kieninger was clear third with 5 1/2 points. Tied for fourth and fifth were Erich Eliskases and Herbert Heinicke both with 5 points. Josef Lokvenc and Alexander Petrov were half point behind and shared sixth and seventh. Clear eighth was Friedrich Sämisch with a score of 4. Closing out were Kurt Richter and August Georg Preusse in the last two places respectively.Condition:Some sunning to extremities and spine, spine ends lightly chipped else a very good copy.

First edition.Mar del Plata has a rich history of chess tournaments, including their international chess tournament and open tournament. There is also an annual city tournament, which had its first edition in 1946, and reached its 62nd edition in 2007. The international tournament started off in 1928, but only in the period from 1941 to 1970 was it a truly international tournament with considerable reputation. After 1970, only seven international tournaments have been played.[1] The 1951, 1954, 1969 and 2001 editions were zonal tournaments. Contains Sir William Jones' poem "Cassia: or The Game of Chess, A Poem"; based upon Pratt's "Studies of Chess". (Van der Linde: 613) 5th English edition.This was first published in London by Ogilvie in 1802 (2 volumes). First published in America in 1817 and reprinted in 1824. The name of the compiler has never been established. The miscellaneous collection of anecdotes, essays and poems at the end is not without interest. The openings and games are all in the numerical notation and no diagrams are given.
