The third master tournament to be held in Karlsbad, Czechoslovakia was held from April 27 to May 22, 1923. Twenty-two masters were invited, the same as in 1911, but only seventeen were able to accept their invitations. Among the players who could not attend for various reasons were Milan Vidmar, David Janowski, and Fyodor Ivanovich Dus Chotimirsky. Eight players were invited to participate, including two very strong masters: Aron Nimzowitsch from Denmark, and Akiba Rubinstein from Poland. They met with six German chess masters that included Jacques Mieses, Friedrich Sämisch, Oscar Antze, Hans Duhm, Hermann Von Gottschall, and Walther Von Holzhausen. Games were played from August 9th to the 18th. Nimzowitsch won with a near perfect score of 6½ of 7, edging out Rubinstein by half a point. The prizes were awarded to the players at the Hotel Luisenhof. One page type written letter Quarto (10 1/4" x 8") on Alain C White's Chess Problem Letter Head as Curator to Gilbert Dobbs signed at the bottom.In the letter Hume is inquiring to a problems which he enclosed (not included) on whether it had been previous published and questioning the solution.George Hume was a British composer and one of the main actors of the "Good Companion" Chess Club. He collected two-movers and used this collection to detect anticipations. He participated to the edition of many books of the White Christmas Series such as Changing Fashions, Valves and Bi-Valves, Flights of Fancy in the Chess World and The Good Companion Two-Mover published in 1922.Gilbert S Dobbs (1867-1941) was an American problemist who specialized in two-movers. First edition.Mar del Plata has a rich history of chess tournaments, including their international chess tournament and open tournament. There is also an annual city tournament, which had its first edition in 1946, and reached its 62nd edition in 2007. The international tournament started off in 1928, but only in the period from 1941 to 1970 was it a truly international tournament with considerable reputation. After 1970, only seven international tournaments have been played. The 1951, 1954, 1969 and 2001 editions were zonal tournaments. [Hagedorn 54, Betts 10-2] First published in Britain in 1846 and in United States in 1847.An elementary text, containing a brief survey of chess literature (Chess and chess writers), a description of the elements, a chapter giving the first few moves of the openings, and other sections on "ends of games" (elementary mates), Games actually played (5 examples), prob3ems with examples (7) and general rules for playing the game, with a list of places where chess is played (in England) and a list of chess periodicals. The American edition is slightly re-arranged pagination, otherwise as the English edition except for the omission of the final list of places where played and periodicals.
