Lanham, MD: University Press of America, 1984. Hardcover. Small 4to. Blue cloth with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. xvi, 231pp. Illustrations. Fine/near fine. First edition, boldly signed by Gertz on front flyleaf in black fineline with "All the best." Traces Witwer's long involvement in Illinois public affairs which reached a high point with the adoption of the 1970 Illinois Constitution. Gertz (1902-2000), known as "The Clarence Darrow of Chicago," was a controversial defense attorney and is often remembered for defending novelist Henry Miller, Lee Harvey Oswald's murderer Jack Ruby, notorious child murderer Nathan Leopold and other high-profile cases.
