Cubberley, about whom we can find no additional information. Original poster for an exhibition of naval aircraft at Philadelphia's Commercial Museum in 1919. Various aircraft are depicted in flight. Possibly done in-house for the museum, we have only seen or heard of one other example (on blue paper), and presume it to be rare.

First Edition. oblong format, 144 pages illustrated with black and white halftone photographs, and a map, original gray cloth, hardcover, good condition (lower right corner of front cover slightly bumped, minor shelf wear to lower spine, not affecting contents which are clean and complete).

This is a unit history, with many photos of the Eastleigh U. S. Navy repair base in England during World War I; its officers and men. There are many photos of early military aircraft, and an essay on "Liberty Twelves" and "DeHavilands."

Laid in is a handwritten note from Gene Emme to NASA archivist Lee Saegesser, with whom Emme had worked closely for years in the NASA History Office. Emme was NASA's first official historian and the founder of the NASA History Office. Through national meetings, technical meetings, symposia and publications, the American Astronautical Society has provided the perspectives and expertise of the leading American space professionals in advancing all space activities. In this book 13 of those professionals provide important perspectives on the history of flight in the U. S. just after the opening of the National Air and Space Museum. Published Philadelphia: Dorrance and Company, 1928, second printing, in the same month as the first - March, 1928. 8vo., 286pp., illustrated with b/w plates. Red linen cloth with gilt spine and cover titles. Inscribed on two occasions by the author; first, on frontis photo: "To Charles Ernstberger, Jr., Clarence D. Chamberlin." Second, on front pastedown: "To Mary L. Zagoreos, with best wishes, Clarence D. Chamberlin, Aug 12th, 1961." Two weeks after Lindbergh's solo transatlantic flight, aviator Clarence Chamberlin flew non-stop from New York to Germany, carry the first transatlantic passenger exceeding Lindbergh's record by 300 miles.
