Christmas traditions in Monterey, California in 1846 from the author of "Three Years in California" and several other books. Walter Colton was a U.S. Navy chaplain and First American Alcalde of Monterey.Ten page booklet with 3 numbered pp. of text and illustrations by Victor Anderson. Privately printed by the Hart Press, with a Christmas greeting slip from Ruth and Jim Hart laid in. Jim Hart was a scholar, editor, and one-time president of the Book Club of California and one-time director of the Bancroft Library of the University of California in Berkeley. Color fading/sunning to cover, especially top inch - else in fine shape for such a fragile offering. Very clean. An extremely scarce item.
