Paris: Paris: [printed by Antoine Bonnemère for] Jean Petit, 1538. Full vellum. Very Good. Octavo; [28], 394 [i.e. 392] leaves (with usual misfoliation omitting ff.291-292). In contemporary limp vellum (lightly soiled with closed splits to vellum at front hinge and spine, binding secure), contemporary ink spine title, yapp edges. Extensive early ink notes to front blank, title with Petit's woodcut printer's device, woodcut decorative initials, some early ink marginalia and underlining, occasional unobtrusive browning and staining. An attractive complete example of this early edition of Dionysius the Carthusian's Commentary on the letters of St.Paul. A rare edition, with just one incomplete citation in USTC (USTC 186001).

First edition, octavo; xvi,232pp, with full complement of 34 engravings, 33 of which are folding. In contemporary unlettered full calf (a little worn with minor loss to board corners, sometime skilfully rebacked in matching leather), five raised spine bands, internally clean with only the lightest of occasional dust staining. Muller was deputy head of the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, where he was instrumental to its transformation into a disciplined cadet academy. An attractive first edition example of his first work. Laurence Sterne possessed the text in second edition, with possible influence on Uncle Toby and Corporal Trim's obsessions with fortification in The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy.
