New York: Published by the Longworths, at the Dramatic Repository, Shakspeare Gallery., 1807. Hardcover. Good. Five separate plays bound in one volume, each with separate dated titlepage with dates ranging from 1807 to 1812. 12mo; 80, 80, [60], 80, 24pp. In contemporary green half leather over plain boards (worn but sound), spine with gilt fillets and gilt lettering (titled "Theatre" to second compartment and "14" to third compartment, suggesting the volume formed part of a more extensive collection). Pages somewhat browned and soiled and with dampstain to closing 20 leaves, overall a well used but presentable volume. The collection contains amongst the first American editions of Lewis's 'Adelgitha' and 'Alfonso' first published in London in 1806 and 1801 respectively, together with apparently the first edition of Dimond's 'Adrian and Orrila' and what is declared as the "first American edition" of Carey's satire 'Chrononhotonthologos'. Dunlap's 'Leicester' is here in undoubtedly a very early edition but the pagination and printer's signatures suggest this item was extracted from another compilation; its titlepage is dated 1807 and its pages are numbered from 90 to 150. Overall a presentable example of a collection of five separate plays all in early editions.
