London: Chapman and Hall, 1874. Book. Near Fine. Half-Leather. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Three volumes bound as one, complete. Title pages dated 1874 with 1824 in brackets on first title page. One volume in "Carlyle's Works." Sharp red half-leather binding with dark-green cloth boards. Spine ornately decorated in gilt with five raised bands and dark green and red leather title blocks. Gilt edging along the leather spine and corners on both boards. All page edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. viii + 248 + 285 + 206. Thick book, measures 7 5/8" x 4 3/4" x 1 3/4". In Near Fine condition. Book is bright and very clean, tightly bound and square with strong, firm hinges with no cracking. Light wear to the leather edges, more heavily at the corners. Gilt decoration and lettering is very bright with only slight touches of wear at top edge of spine and on raised bands. Cloth boards have only a couple very slight touches of surface wear. No bumping to the edges or corners. Spotless outer page edges. Excellent interior with very bright, clean, flawless text pages with no browning or foxing. Light foxing to the blank pages at front and back of book, extending slightly to first title page. Book opens wide at one text page near the center exposing the inner sewing but with no looseness of pages. Previous owner's small bookplate on first blank page..
