New York: ACME, 1937. Near Fine. 9" x 7. Gelatin silver print. Press photo depicting William Richardson, who went by Mary Baker, of Bay Ridge, New York. Richardson, age 26, passed as a woman so successfully "that he had held jobs as a waitress, laundress, chorus cutie, and for the last six years has been a 'wife' to another man. His arrest for allegedly accosting a plainclothesman, led to his unmasking." The image shows Richardson with his attorney and probation officer in a Brooklyn courtroom, when was sentenced to 90 days in prison. He originally spent two days in a women's jail before being discovered. Her husband claimed he didn't know Richardson had been born a man. Near Fine with light waviness, and mimeographed caption adhered to the verso.
