Based on the 1938 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, about a young boy and his relationship with a rescued fawn. Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman were both nominated for Oscars for their starring roles, and Claud Jarman, Jr. (in his first acting role) made a lasting impression as a confident young man coming to terms with responsibility. Stamped on the front wrapper is the "SAVE FILM! / HELP WIN THE WAR!" statement often seen on wartime scripts. Blue titled wrappers, noted as TEMPORARY COMPLETE on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 26, dated 12-7-44, with credits for producer Sidney Franklin. Title page not present. 174 leaves, mimeograph, with white revision pages throughout, dated variously between 12-8-44 and 3-15-45. Pages Good plus, wrapper Good plus bound with two gold brads.
