About This Item
Chicago: S.C. Griggs & Co, 1874. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Green cloth with gilt lettering and pictorial stamping and black decorative rules. 258pp, (2pp ads). Frontispiece, small engravings. Very good. Mild binding edgewear and hint of rubbing, though tight and internally bright and near fine; inner flyleaf ownership signature. A handsome first edition of this unusual travelogue by the noted journalist, poet and war correspondent (1844-1927). Taylor first reported on touring the U.S. by locomotive, stagecoach, barge, paddlewheeler and other forms of transportation in the pages of "The New York Examiner and Chronicle" before these essays were gathered in book form.
