Hulton Press, London; 178x260mm; paper wrappers. pp 80, about 60 of which are taken up with George Orwell; covers dust marked, back cover detached but present, spine lacking small pieces at top and bottom, internally firm and clean but with a few relevant words scribbled in ink on the contents page. Orwell kept a diary over two periods during WWII, namely from 25 May 1940 to 28 August 1941 and from mid-march to mid-November 1942, the material consisting of notes on experiences and his views at the time. This was unpublished at the time of Orwell's death in January 1950 and the material here comes from the earlier part of the diary and with some editing of repetition, of newspaper reports included and of "certain speculations which have since been superseded by our knowledge of the course of events".
