Garp's life - adapted into a 1984 Oscar-nominated film starring Robin Williams and Glenn Close. The National Book Award-winning THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP established John Irving's writing career. Though the concept of the story sounds relatively straightforward - the life of a writer - THE LOS ANGELES TIMES notes the book "should not, indeed cannot, be summarized... it is a book of incredible energy, a rollercoaster ride that leaves one breathless, exhausted, elated and tearful" (16). A wonderful copy with warm inscription. 9.5'' x 6.25''. Original blue cloth-backed yellow boards with gilt spine lettering. Original unclipped ($10.95) color and gilt dust jacket designed by Leo Manso. Fore-edge machine deckle, red endpapers. 438 pages. Inscribed by Irving to half-title page "For___ / ___, whose / kind appreciation / of [THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP] is / very gratifying / to me. Thank / you!" Jacket with only mild edgewear, a couple tiny scuff spots. Bright.
Synopsis
John Irving has been nominated for a National Book Award three times–winning once, in 1980, for the novel The World According to Garp. A Prayer for Owen Meany was published in 1989. In 1992, Mr. Irving was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma. In 2000, he won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Cider House Rules –a film with seven Academy Award nominations. From the Trade Paperback edition.

This is the best book I have ever read!! If you want a story about the 70's this is one, full of symoblism and underlying truths and tragedy. The "undertoad" You may not always see it but its always there, and we all have those "undertoads" in our life. This book is full complete, from beginning to end, the end will not leave you questioning "what was Irving thinking?" He completed this book and didn't shirk on the details, its phenomonal!
