About This Item

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1911. Book. Near Fine. Cloth. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. This is the Author's National Edition in stamped red cloth ( to resemble a 3/4 leather binding) with gilt lettering and rules to the spine. The Author's National Edition in red cloth was printed on a continuing basis from 1909 to 1916. No dates on the title pages, but copyright dates in this set are: 10--1899, 1-- 1900, 2-- 1901, 4-- 1903, 3-- 1907, 1--1910, and 1--1911. This set is NEAR FINE for 24 of the 25 volumes and VG- for the other.. Gilt on spines is bright and clear. Minimal signs of wear to exterior boards with occasional spotting/rubbing. Spine ends have minimal crimping , and only a spot or two of fraying. Top of page edges are generally moderately dust stained, but bottom page edges are clean, just modestly toned. Interiors are firmly bound, clear, and unmarked ( save for a neat PO signature on title pages of Volumes XVII and XVIII and a bookseller's stamp to the inside front board of Volume XII. Volume XXII is the VG- due to more moderate wear to the outside and one page which was torn but tape repaired with all text intact , otherwise all pages in this and all other volumes as published and secure. Scattered minimal foxing found in the first few pages in most volumes.. The "This is the authorized Uniform Edition of all my books. Mark Twain," facsimile signatures on the backs of the fly leafs are all present as are all the frontispieces.A very attractive set. I will be happy to provide the source of my research upon request so that you might better appreciate the history of how this edition came to be. The twenty-five volumes, in order are: The Innocents Abroad (2 volume set), A Tramp Abroad ( 2 volume Set), Following the Equator ( 2 volume set) Roughing it ( 2 volume set), Life on the Mississippi, The Gilded Age ( 2 volume set) , The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Puddin''head Wilson and Those Extraordinary Twins, The Prince and the Pauper, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, Joan of Arc ( 2 volume set), Sketches New and Old, Tom Sawyer Abroad/Tom Sawyer, Detective and Other Stories, etc.,The American Claimant, etc., How To Tell a Story, The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg and Other Essays and Stories, The $30,000 Bequest and Other Stories, and , finally, Christian Science with Notes Containing Corrections to Date.
