Joseph Andrews, or The History of the Adventures of Joseph Andrews and of his Friend Mr. Abraham Adams, was the first published full-length novel and among the first novels in the English language. This was Fieldings answer to Richardson's Pamela which was considered at the time "vulgar". Fielding's novels were more appealing to its readers, as they had a beginning, middle and end. He made his characters more relatable, more real than simply charactures. A handsome set bound in 3/4 brown morocco over tan cloth with matching cloth endpapers, raised bands with compartments lettered and decorated in gilt, top edges gilt, no names, bookplates or foxing. Very nice.
