London: William Pickering, 1846. Hardcover. Very Good. 2 volumes: xii, 414, [2] p., engraved frontispiece portrait; xxvi, 384 p., engraved frontispiece portrait; 23 cm. Contemporary? calf binding with six spine compartments between raised bands. Original leather label lacking from second and third compartments; blind-stamped decoration in remaining compartments. Ornate blind-tooled diamond in the center of each board with blind-ruled borders. All page edges red. Marbled endpapers. Green bookbinder's label on front fixed endpaper of vol. 1: Jas. McCormick, bookbinder, Dublin, "Books bought & exchanged." Half title and title page printed in red and black. Publisher's emblem on title page. Engraved head-pieces and initial letters. Former owner's name on blank leaf following front endpapers of each volume: the Revd W. E. Burroughs, 1876. The Rev. William Edward Burroughs served as the chaplain of the Kingstown Episcopalian Mariners Church (Dun Laoghaire) from 1876 to 1895, when he joined the Church Missionary Society in London. Vol. 1 includes Life of Herbert by Isaak Walton, and Life of Herbert by Barnabas Oley. A heavy set; for international shipping, they will have to be sent by priority international. In Very Good Condition: lacking leather spine labels; edges are rubbed; vol. 1 front joint has started to separate at each end; frontispieces are foxed; otherwise, internally clean and crisp.
