About This Item

(Greenwich): The Society for Nautical Research, 1929. Reprint. Hardcover. Fine. Tall 8vo. Pp. 100. Bound in blue cloth with gilt lettering stamped on front cover. With a letter from Reginald Lowe tipped-in at rear pastedown. Fine. A treatise worth reprinting for the salty sailor-humor Ward imparts in sizing up varied personnel on a given ship. This copy was sent from Reginald Lowe, MBE, long-time assistant to Geoffrey Callender, and since its inception until his death, 1934 - 1990, a steadfast officer at the National Maritime Museum, to US Navy Lt. Commander William Walcott Shea, dated 1948, as indicated in the attached letter.
