About This Item
New York: The Vanguard Press, 1960. Hardcover. 4to. Green cloth with silver lettering and pictorial stamping, pictorial dust jacket. (Ca. 15opp). Extensive illustrations. Near fine/very good. Mild jacket edgewear, with spine rather sunned and a few tiny edge chips. A tight and sharp first edition of this cartoon collection chronicling Smith, "the most civilized and reassuring historian of our time...." Funny that this whimsical fictional character bears an uncanny likeness to the original egghead, Illinois governor and twice presidential candidate Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-65) -- and funny that, although it bears no ownership signature, this copy hails from the library of Governor Adlai E. Stevenson II and Senator Adlai E. Stevenson III!
