Red cloth spine with gilt design of totem pole and blue cloth sides. Top edges gilt. xvi, 194pp. Folding frontispiece color folding panorama view of the facade of Muir Glacier, Alaska. Color map and 86 other illustrations by American Bank Note Company from Mrs. Collis’ photographs. Some illustrations are tinted in color. Introductory letter by General William T. Sherman. Septima Mary Levy Collis was the daughter of a Jewish Charleston planter who married Irish-American Civil War General C. H. T. Collis in 1861 and wrote of her conflicting loyalties in her 1889 memoir "A Woman's War Record". She set aside her summer at Saratoga plans in 1890 for a cross-country railroad trip from New York City to Tacoma, Washington. From there, she embarked on a steamship that sailed along the Pacific Coast, along British Columbia up into Alaska. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
