New York: Free Europe Press, 1956. Newsletter. Bound volume of numbers 1-7, plus a special issue; 6.25x8.5 inches, with a cover letter from the Free Europe Committee bound in, explaining the purpose of the publication and its method of delivery. Paperstock is evenly toned; boards are plain with title label affixed; a horizontal blade cut crosses the front cover but only cuts the right edge of the first couple of pages; the issues themselves are generally very good. Based on the holdings of the National Library of Poland, Biblioteka Narodowa, this appears to be the complete set. The cover letter, in the name of Samuel S. Walker, states that "Wolna Europa is a bi-weekly newspaper published by the Polish and American staff of Free Europe Press and sent into Poland by balloons. Its main purpose, as defined in the editorial, is to supply the people of Poland with an objective source of information denied them by the Communist regime. As such, it serves as a printed auxiliary to RFE's Voice of Free Poland.
