Missing front free end paper.. 1 344 p. Light green cloth over boards, profusely decorated in black and orange; gold spine titles. 19 cm. Historical fiction, based on author's research in Francis Parkman's "Montcalm and Wolfe" and Major Knox's detailed history of the Louisbourg and Quebec expeditions, who had served under Generals Amherst and Wolfe (from Henty's Preface). The tides in controlling the vast North American possessions and settlements between Canada and Louisiana were changing as France and England maneuvered. Henty's storyline illustrates historic "shortsightedness" and wasted human and real treasure by otherwise powerful world powers of the colonies.

Early printing, not a first. Pencilled gift inscription, price, two small frays, and a little staining on ffep, a litttle rubbing on cover, corners slightly bumped, tiny dent top fore edge through most of book, else text clean, binding tight. For NY state residents I am required to add 8.875% sales tax.

NY: Hurst and Company Cover is slightly scuffed and worn at the edges, bumped and slightly soiled. Pages have erasable marks, and are tight and browning.. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo.
