Broughton: 176pp., De Mille: 132pp., illustrated. and Trollope 61pp. (2) frontispiece illustrations. Rhoda Broughton's work was notable for being slightly risqué. The novelist and critic Mrs. Oliphant was horrified by Broughton's "uncleanly suggestions". Her novels were soon banned from circulating libraries. James De Mille was a Canadian author whose works were serialized in magazines before being published in book form.(see Watters, Canadian Literature, p. 273) Trollope's Harry Heathcote was inspired when he traveled to Australia to visit his son during Christmas one year in the Bush of Australia.
