J. Ottmann Litho. Co. New York. No date. Circa 1907. Die-cut Chromolithographic Bear and clothing in original printed envelope. (Bear is 10.5 inches tall, envelope is 11.5 x 8.5 inches). The Bear has a (recently replaced) plain card back stand to keep him upright and the 5 outfits have tabs so can be laid onto the body. The hats have small slits and sit on the head, in between the ears. Each outfit comes with a hat but the Driver's cap is missing. The outfits are; a Dress Suit with vests, tie, pocket square and top hat; a Nautical Suit of blue blazer with gold buttons, stripes, anchors, and white trousers with a cap featuring an eagle; a Baseball Uniform for the NL, National League, with a striped cap; a yellow Bathrobe trimmed in red, striped socks, and a red sleeping cap; and a Driver's Coat with brass buttons, belt, and grey gloves (the cap is missing from this outfit). (5.9 x 4.4 inches). xvi, 157pp. Thirteen hand coloured illustrated plates (including extra title page) with movable pull tabs to change the image. An asterisk next to the text tells when the movable should be used to animate the scene. A crease to the top of the half title page and a few minor thumb marks to a handful of leaves, otherwise a very good, fresh and clean copy in the publishers red morocco-grained cloth with blind stamped decorative border to both boards. Gilt lettering to the front board. Coated mid brown endpapers. All edges gilt. A superior copy of this rare movable. First issued in 1831, there was a second issue in 1837 and then this third, circa 1875, with the text printed by Ducessios of Paris. All three printings are rare, and copies in such good condition and with all tabs present and easily workable, as this one even more so. Sometimes described as the first interactive book published, this is certainly the first to use… Read More

(cm 33x27,5). An elaborate - very rare - children's movable and pop-up book by the Munich lawyer and author of humourous verse, Franz Bonn (cfr. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franz_Bonn). This complete with four splendid perspective scenes, each with five different levels. The scenes are "The Menagerie", "The Circus", "The Puppet Theater" (with a rotating disc), and "Summer in the Park". With verses by Mrs. Bonn. Klotz I, 592, 4. We could trace just one other copy (Munich, IJB).
