Some minor foxing to the fore edge but not affecting the open pages. A fine copy in publishers decorative blue cloth boards which are fully illustrated and lettered in black, yellow, white and light blus to fropnt board and spine. Rear board with smaller illustration and lettering in black and white.Some minor white spotting to the lower board at very bottom and on lower half of the hinge. In the rare original dustwrapper which reproduces the boards and spine in black on blue paper. One small piece (0.5 x 0.4 inch) missing from the top of the spine, not affecting the lettering,and strengthened with archive tape to the reverse of the top of spine but overall in superb condition. Children's books of this vintage are uncommon in any dustwrapper but to find one in such good condition is rare indeed.:

A very good copy with some foxing to the first and last few pages, otherwise bright and tidy. Publishers original green cloth with gilt illustrations of characters to front board. Spine lettered in gilt. Board edges just a little rubbed but the gilt is still bright. Decorative map endpapers drawn by Shepard and showing all the Characters homes. A very good of this lovely book.

Double ruled gilt borders to both boards. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. Gilt stamped school arms on the front board. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bindery. A lovely copy on a fine early leather binding. The book is not dated but a search of Copac shows a copy of this same edition in the Cambridge University Library where they have dated its publication to 1883.:
