William Tell Told Again by P G Wodehouse - 1904

London : Adam and Charles Black, 1904 A fair copy of the 1st impression of the 1st edition in the original decorative cloth binding with colour frontispiece and 15 further colour plates by Philip Dadd. The cream cloth binding has gilt titles to the front board and spine with a design in green and tan to the front. The spine is darkened and the spine ends are pulled with some fraying. There is a slight split at the front spine joint. The corners are turned apart from the top front corner which is bumped. There is some grubbiness, particularly to the bottom of the front board, where is there is a small red ?ink stain. The back board has a gilt armorial design with the motto faber est quisque fortunae suae. Internally there is the bookplate of F Kingsley Norris to the front pastedown. Contents with half title; frontispiece; tissue guard; title with red publisher's emblem; dedication; illustration list; poem; text with 15 tissue-guarded plates p 1-105; epilogue p 106; 2 pp publisher's ads at the rear, advertising The Gold Bat, The Pothunters, A Prefect's Uncle; and Tales of St Austin's. The contents are very foxed and slightly shaken with the backing showing at p64/5. There is a damaged side edge to the guard at plate II; damage to the bottom edge of plate III - with some damage to the guard; plate VI has a turn to the top corner; plate VIII has a very damaged and detached guard; and plate XI has a damaged guard.
