Octavo. 7 x 9.5 inches. ix [i] + 296 + [vi] pp. Gravure photograph of Morris as frontispiece and with 38 black and white illustrations with captioned tissue guards present where called for. A lovely copy printed at the Knickerbocker Press in the scarce publisher's leather binding.

Hardbound, blue cloth with gilt lettering and elaborate decoration on spine and front board, in good condition with moderate rubbing to spine lettering and decoration, some wear at spine ends and edges, wearing to board tips with some exposure to boards, some rubbing to bottom of front and rear boards, not severe but visible scratch near top of front board, binding and hinges still firm, wonderful illustrations, interior clean and unmarked, top edge gilt, pages deckled edged.

A beautiful copy with one of the finest covers designed by Margaret Armstrong. While the Arts and Craft Movement arose from the pre-raphaelites, it never quite equalled Morris's majestic influence. Here we see an art critics' appreciation not only of his poetry but the emphasis on the craftsman "per excellence" whose vision could be achieved in the finest materpieces of book design. Bound in dark blue cloth, decorated in gilt by Margaret Armstrong, decorative gilt spine, top edge gilt.
