Arbor House; Bantam Books; The Berkeley Publishing Group; Victor Gollancz Ltd. An collection of works written by William Gibson, an author widely considered to be the chief architect of the science fiction genre. Five items, all signed first editions. The novels within this collection include: Neuromancer. New York: The Berkeley Publishing Group, 1984. "He coined the word "cyberspace" and popularized the concept through his 1984 debut novel, Neuromancer, well before the internet transformed human communication and daily life. He was crowned a prophet of the information age and has been credited with foreseeing the ways technology shapes our identity, and the rise of reality television and technological innovations like Google Glass" (The New York Times). "On its release, Neuromancer won the 'big three' for science fiction: the Nebula, Philip K Dick and Hugo awards. It sold more than six million copies and launched an entire aesthetic: cyberpunk. In predicting this future, Gibson can be said to have helped shape our conception of the internet. Other novelists are held in higher esteem by literary critics, but few can claim to have had such a wide-ranging influence" (The Guardian). - First edition (paperback original). Signed on title page. Crease in spine, otherwise fine. Rare in such good condition. Count Zero. New York: Arbor House, 1986; London: Victor Gollancz Ltd, 1986. "A followup, though not a direct sequel, to his career-launching Neuromancer, Gibson's sophomore novel handily avoids the sophomore slump. Count Zero shows the once and future cyberpunk warming to his technocentric themes and becoming more comfortable in the frenetic language and balance of cynicism and satire that would become some of his trademarks" (Science Fiction Reviews). - First American and English editions respectively. Signed by author on half-title in American edition and on title page in UK edition. Fine copies. Mona Lisa Overdrive. Bantam Books: Toronto, 1988; Victor Gollancz Ltd: London, 1988. "Her fingers found a random second stud and she was catapulted through the static wall, into cluttered vastness, the notional void of cyberspace, the bright grid of the matrix ranged around her like an infinite cage" (William Gibson, Mona Lisa Overdrive). -First American and English editions respectively. Signed by author on title-page in each. Fine copies.
